Optometric Intern
Optometry Office Assistant
We have an opening at our optometry office from now through Summer 2027 (longer commitments are welcome). We are ideally seeking a pre-optometry or pre-med student taking a gap year who can commit to at least one full school year. This position is currently held by a UC Berkeley graduate who has been accepted to optometry school, making it an excellent opportunity for students interested in healthcare and optometry.
Responsibilities include:
Pre-testing and working up patients
Performing basic optometric testing
Assisting with glasses and contact lenses
All training will be provided
Opportunity to shadow the optometrist in clinic and learn the behind-the-scenes aspects of private practice
Position details:
Part-time
Preferably later hours in the day (flexible)
3–5 days per week (flexible)
Approximately 15–20 hours per week (flexible)

About the Role

What is the East Bay Center for the Blind: Established in 1939, The East Bay Center for the Blind, Inc. is an innovative, grassroots, nonprofit organization that seeks to empower blind and visually impaired individuals underserved by traditional agencies. We strive to actively facilitate independence, confidence, dignity and self-growth in our community.
Your Role as a Volunteer:
- Assist with clerical tasks (such as reading letters, organizing files, and other computer work)
- Using your visual senses! (such as locating items, helping out during classes, etc)
- Provide support for community outings and events (set-up/clean-up, sighted guide for walks and outing activities)
