Optometric Technician

Berkeley Optometric Group in Downtown Berkeley is looking to hire new optometric technicians. This position involves assisting doctors in running optometric equipment, optician work (including frame selection, placing and checking in lab orders for glasses and contacts, billing insurance, troubleshooting patients’ concerns), and front desk responsibilities. You will gain plenty of experience in every area of the office, which will give you an edge as an applicant and when you start optometry school.
No prior experience required; we are happy to train you in all of these areas. We’re looking for someone enthusiastic about the field, is motivated to learn and committed to pursuing optometry. The ideal candidate will be around for at least two years and can work full-time, however the minimum commitment is one year. Part-time could work if you’re able to work a minimum of two days a week for a total of 16 hours a week. This is an ideal position for a pre-optometry student who is taking a gap year before going to optometry school.
You will have the opportunity to learn about interesting cases we encounter – feel free to ask questions to learn more about eye conditions and you will be challenged to grow in your clinical thinking skills even this early on. The things you will learn here will all be valuable in becoming a strong optometry school applicant. The three doctors here all went to Berkeley Optometry, and two of them have taught in the program. We will provide career and school application mentorship during your time working at this practice.
Please contact Dr. Stephen Chun at drchun.bog@gmail.com with your resume/CV and cover letter. You can find more information about our practice at https://www.berkeleyoptometricgroup.com/
